The annual Christmas offering from Actually Gay Men’s Chorus (AGMC) this year is It’s Actually Christmas. The Christmas extravaganza, always one of the highlights of the LGBT+ Christmas season, will pack St Andrew’s Church, Waterloo Street to the rafters on Saturday, December 22 from 8pm.
Do you want to sing in an all male chorus with other gay men? Some people join Actually Gay Men’s Chorus simply because they love to sing and perform. Others join because they strongly believe in the ongoing mission of the chorus for acceptance, equality, and individuality.
There are some excellent LBGT choirs in Brighton and Hove, but to my mind the gay men’s group Resound and their female counterpart Rebelles, are technically head and shoulders above the rest.

A Pride performance from Actually Gay Men’s Chorus! The build up to Pride 2015 sees a welcome return and pairing, as cabaret star and current holder of Golden Handbag, Favourite Entertainer, Miss Jason joins forces once again with Actually Gay Men’s Chorus, in what is becoming a bit of a Pride tradition.
Resound Male Voices, a Brighton & Hove based male singing group, will be performing with the Rebelles at Out of the Woods: Music at Midsummer, a magical evening of vocal music loosely set in a Scandinavian midsummer forest on June 20. The choirs, both led by opera singer and vocal coach, Stefan Holmström, will be performing a beautiful Swedish setting of the Shakespeare sonnet Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer’s Day by Nils Lindberg along with bossa nova, folk music from Sweden and Ireland and songs by Irving Berlin, Jobim, Pink Martini, Benjamin Britten and Gershwin among others.
The Actually Gay Men’s Chorus returned to top form with a beautifully staged show I Got Rhythm, at St Andrews Church in Hove on Saturday, April 18. The church was packed, with standing room only and graced by the attendance of the Mayor and Mayoress of Brighton and Hove, Cllr Brian Fitch and his wife Nora. After many heady years of success, the choir has been going through a period of rebuilding during the last 12 months. It was wonderful to see them back to 40 voices strong and in great voice.
The main feature that always set this choir apart from the other LGBT choirs in the city was the wall of sound they produced when they sang.
