Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, submits formal objections to proposed housing development at Meadow Vale in Ovingdean. The application to build 85 homes on greenfield land between Ovingdean, Rottingdean and Woodingdean in Brighton was rejected by Brighton & Hove City Council’s planning committee earlier this year but the developers, Lightwood Strategic, have appealed the decision.

Sussex born Simon, lives with his wife and his six children in East Brighton. He was elected as the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven at the last general election in May, 2010. Simon was first elected to represent the people of Kemptown in 1992, as a Councillor on East Sussex County Council. Following this, he was a representative for Ovingdean, Rottingdean and Saltdean on both Brighton Borough and Brighton and Hove City Councils, and has been a School Governor at a number of schools during the past 20 years.

The Conservative Manifesto, makes reference to the steps taken by the Government to enhance equality in the UK with, for example, the introduction of same-sex marriage.
Jeremy Hunt MP the Secretary of State for Health paid a visit to the Sussex Beacon with Simon Kirby the Conservative candidate for Brighton Kemptown & Peacehaven on Thursday, April 16.
During the visit Mr Hunt was shown round the Beacon’s in patient unit, had tea with Beacon supporters and volunteers and answered questions from the local media.
About 65 people attended the first of two LGBT election hustings, organised by The LGBT Community Safety Forum, at The Queens Hotel on Monday April 13. This first one was for Parliamentary Candidates from the three Brighton and Hove Constituencies. The second LGBT election hustings, for candidates who are ward councillors, will be held at the same venue at 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday, April 21.
Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) is calling on the next Government to introduce four key measures that can help improve the lives of people living with HIV and can help turn the tide against the HIV epidemic. The national sexual health charity asked its members – who include those affected by HIV – their views on what matters to them which has informed the four key changes that it, and others in the sector, would like the next Government to make following the election in May.
