Make Change Count 2020 : Supporting Rough Sleepers
The number of people sleeping rough and experiencing homelessness in the Brighton & Hove continues to rise despite considerable resources being allocated to help ease the problem. This year’s rough sleeper review produced by the government confirms the number of rough sleepers in Brighton & Hove as 178 in the annual winter estimate.
This Sunday (December 10), a night shelter opens at the Brighton Centre providing places for 30 people who are rough sleeping in the city.
A council-owned building will be used as a shelter for people sleeping rough in the city this winter. A large room in the centrally located Brighton Centre entertainment and conference venue is currently being prepared.
The annual review of the number rough sleepers in Brighton & Hove has taken place. The rough sleeper estimate aims to identify the current numbers of people sleeping rough in the city to make sure support and resources are allocated where most needed.
The first ever Rough Sleeping summit was held in Brighton on Friday, December 4, linking partners across the city to look at how best to work together on the issue of rough sleeping.
