Ahead of the UK General Election we are hosting an LGBTQ Election hustings on November 27th. The G-Scene News Team has written to all candidates, in all three Brighton & Hove constituencies, asking them all the same question.
Labour’s LGBT manifesto promises to transform access to mental health services for next generation of LGBT people. Launching Labour’s LGBT manifesto Angela Eagle, Labour’s Shadow Leader of the House of Commons highlighted statistics showing nearly a quarter of LGB young people, and half of young trans people, have attempted suicide.
Peter left school without the qualifications he needed to get by so he returned to secondary school as a 25 year-old and started all over again. Since then he’s got a PhD in community development, set up a local film company, run a charity for youth unemployment and been an aid worker.
New research has identified the key election issues for hundreds of young people in Brighton, Hove and Peacehaven leading to the three local Labour parliamentary candidates launching their ‘youth pledge’ on Brighton’s seafront this week. While creating more affordable higher education was the number one concern raised by young people, others included a much broader range of subjects – shared with the wider population. Fighting for a Living Wage, secure full-time jobs, better rental properties and cheaper public transport made up the rest of the top five issues young people said need tackling.
Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), the largest sexual health charity in Europe will host a hustings called “HIV in Brighton” in the lead up to the general election on May 7. The Hustings will bring together candidates from the three Parliamentary constituencies of Brighton & Hove to answer your questions about how they will address issues related to HIV across Brighton & Hove if they are elected.
Katy Bourne the Police and Crime Commissioner cut the tape to open the new offices of the LGBT Community Safety Forum (LGBT CSF) last week. She was joined by Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp and Peter Kyle the Labour parliamentary candidate for Hove & Portslade. The office is provided free of charge to the LGBT CSF and other groups through a Charity accommodation initiative.
The Labour and Co-operative Party in Brighton and Hove today unveiled plans to tackle and end youth unemployment locally if they have a clear majority on the City Council after the local elections in May.

A lot has happened since I wrote my review of 2013. Every year has its ups and downs, and if you are an Albion season ticket holder like me you’ll know what I mean. Yet every time I walk on the Downs, in view of the sea and the city centre, I’m reminded of how lucky we are to live here.
