Brighton AIDS Memorial Candlelight Vigil today – Sunday 1st December.
The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Cllr Dee Simson will lead representatives from over thirty community and statutory organisations in the reading of the names tonight at the Brighton AIDS Memorial.
On Friday, December 1, in the shadow of the Brighton AIDS Memorial, The Mayor of Brighton & Hove, led city dignitaries in the reading of the names of those who had died from HIV/Aids in the city since the start of the pandemic.
A partnership of LGBT+ venues have raised £2,186.30 to purchase memorial benches in memory of two former employees.
Managers at Bar Revenge, Charles Street, Legends, Revenge and Queens Arms came together from March 30 – April 2 for a UNITY Fundraiser Weekend in memory of Gary ‘Gloria’, Swan who worked over the years on door security at Bar Revenge, Legends and Revenge and Michael ‘Mouse’ Burton who worked as a barman at Charles Street.
“It’s time for transgender people to come out of the shadows”…says broadcaster Sophie Cook. Over the past few years transgender visibility has improved greatly with a number of trans people becoming very public through the media including Brighton based broadcaster and news anchor Sophie Cook who was even featuring on Match of the Day’s Premier League football show recently.
Lunch Positive the Brighton based HIV charity will be catering at a wide range of events being staged as part of the B RIGHT ON LGBT Festival which celebrates LGBT History month during February. The Lunch Positive Community Café, situated just outside the Phil Starr Pavilion in New Steine Gardens will be staffed by Lunch Positive volunteers.
The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Cllr Pete West will attend the Vigil called to show solidarity for the Victims of the Orlando killings in New Steine Gardens by the Aids Memorial starting at 7.30pm this evening, June 13.
Brighton is marking International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on Tuesday, May, 17, 2016. May 17 commemorates the day in 1990 the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental diseases.
