Harrow and Barnet are first councils in England to offer home testing HIV kits in partnership with THT. The news coincides with Do it London awareness raising campaign, which aims to encourage regular testing for HIV and promote safe sex.
By May 2015 self testing HIV kits will be available from Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust’s online Freedoms shop. The UK’s first legally approved HIV self-testing kit is anticipated to go on sale in the next few weeks on CNWL’s Freedoms shop website, costing £29.95.
The self test is the first of its kind in the UK, allowing individuals to receive their results at home, like a home pregnancy test.
