UK Prime Minister tackles historic colonial era anti-gay laws in speech at Commonwealth Heads of Government summit. The Prime Minister used a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Joint Forum Plenary yesterday morning (April 17) to deliver her speech.
The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has been urged by Peter Tatchell to apologise for Britain imposing anti-gay laws on dozens of other countries during the colonial era. The call coincides with this week’s start of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London.
104,000 people from across the Commonwealth have signed a petition demanding an end to the criminalisation of LGBT people in 37 out of 53 Commonwealth member states. The petition will be delivered to the Commonwealth Secretariat in London at 12.30pm, Wednesday April 11, by a six-person delegation, representing LGBT+ people from across the Commonwealth.
