The Historic Market Town of Totnes in rural Devon, hosted its fifth Pride event at the weekend, with an estimated 1,500 people coming together to celebrate with the local lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, (LGBT+) communities. Organisers of the popular event, Totnes-based social enterprise Proud2Be, laid on a host of events in town on the big day.
The historic market town of Totnes in Devon, will host the fifth Totnes Pride on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Social enterprise Proud2Be are organising a host of events, which will bring the LGBT+ communities together with their friends, families and supporters, to celebrate diversity in the town.
CN Lester is researching the life and works of Barbara Strozzi supervised by Dr Lisa Colton in the Centre for the Study of Music, Gender and Identity. Musician and activist CN Lester is completing a PhD project at the University of Huddersfield, investigating and appraising an important but neglected woman composer of the 1600s, but has also published a highly contemporary new book on transgender issues that is being described as ‘agenda setting’.
For the first time in history, Totnes Town Council has raised the rainbow flag over Totnes Civic Hall, as a sign of solidarity for LGBT+ people in Totnes and beyond. During the moving ceremony, onlookers enjoyed a special performance by Totnes Community Choir Global Harmony and Totnes Women’s Choir VIVA.
Preparations are underway for the third Totnes Pride, which will bring together the local LGBTQ+ communities along with their friends, families and allies for a full day and night of celebration in the town.
In a gesture of support and solidarity for the local LGBT community, Totnes Town Council will raise the rainbow flag over Totnes Civic Hall during Totnes Pride week. The flag raising ceremony will take place on Monday, August 31 2015 at 6.30pm and everyone is invited to attend.
