Thousands of Brighton and Hove residents have signed a petition calling for a ‘People’s Vote’ on any Brexit deal. The petition, started by Green Party Councillor Pete West, says: “The government and parliament were given a mandate to negotiate a Brexit deal for Britain. However, they have no right to impose a final deal. The people must have the final say on whether or not to accept the proposals on the table.
Brighton & Hove Green Party selects candidates for the Brunswick and Adelaide ward for the May 2019 council elections. They are, Councillor Phélim Mac Cafferty, Convenor of the Green Group of Councillors and Hannah Clare, former Co-Chair of the Young Greens of England and Wales and a local resident.
Green Group of Councillors on Brighton & Hove City Council successfully intervene to suspend the sale of land in the Downland estate. Alongside campaigners, The Greens called for a suspension of the proposed sale in the council’s natural Downland estate including land at Poynings and Plumpton Hill.
Green Councillors are concerned over a consultation currently underway to introduce communal bins into historic seafront squares in the city.
Despite a petition signed by a total of 7,400 residents opposing the move, the Post Office have announced it will be moving ahead with plans to merge Western Road Crown Post Office in Hove with the branch in Melville Road, Hove.
The final step to marriage equality takes place on Wednesday, December 10 2014. This is the date when anyone in a civil partnership can convert to a marriage if they choose to do so. The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act came into effect at the start of the year, on Saturday, March 29, 2014. However at that time there was no legal way for couples in civil partnerships to be married. This inequality will be rectified when conversions begin this December.
