Michele Walklett and Laura Walklett have been partners for 15 years and are now officially married in the eyes of the law. The couple originally entered into a civil partnership on November 18, 2006, before moving to live together in Spain.

The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act came into effect on Saturday, March 29, 2014. At that time there was no legal way for couples already in civil partnerships to be married.
