A yoga drop-in class has formed in Hove to improve the health of people affected by ME or similar illnesses.
Welcoming and supportive, the classes, which take place on Mondays from 2pm at the Cornerstone Community Centre in Hove, are led by a qualified teacher with a good knowledge and understanding of ME and fibromyalgia.
This is an opportunity for people to truly relax and enjoy gently moving with the breath, which often creates calm in the mind. With expert guidance from a qualified yoga teacher, each session aims to leave people feeling relaxed and energized.
Colin Barton, chairman of the Sussex ME Society that helped secure funding for the project, said: “Specialised Yoga classes have shown to benefit many affected by ME and helped them towards improved health.”
ME affects over 4,000 people across Sussex including a good number of the LGBTQ+ community. Symptoms include profound physical and mental fatigue, concentration and working memory difficulties, muscle pain, sleep and mood disturbances along with gastric problems.
The hour-long sessions are held on Mondays from 2–3pm at the Cornerstone Community Centre, Church Road, Hove.
