Victoria’s Secret bring “long overdue diversity” to its fashion show with Emira D’Spain strutting their stuff as the brand’s first Black trans model

Graham Robson October 17, 2024

Emira D’Spain became Victoria’s Secret’s first Black transgender model when she arrived at this year’s Victoria Secret Fashion Show in an all-black lingerie ensemble from the brand, highlighting her ongoing collaboration with the lingerie giant.

D’Spain, the first Black transgender model to work with Victoria’s Secret, has continued to break boundaries since making her debut with the brand in 2022, following in the footsteps of Valentina Sampaio, the first transgender model to represent Victoria’s Secret in 2019.

Fans of the Emirati-born American model have said the appearance of D’Spain is a “milestone” for the lingerie brand. Aside from her groundbreaking role with Victoria’s Secret, she has modelled for notable campaigns with brands like Fenty Beauty, Ugg, Anastasia Beverly Hills and NARS Cosmetics. According to Variety, she became the first Black transgender woman to model for Victoria’s Secret in 2022, “helping to reshape the landscape of fashion inclusivity.”
