On Friday, March 31 – Trans Day of Visibility – Translash Media released season 2 of the podcast The Anti-Trans Hate Machine: A Plot Against Equality (ATHM).
With a record wave of anti-trans legislation reported in the United States – including bans on gender affirming healthcare for trans children and adults – ATHM Season 2 aims to illuminate how the right-wing has fuelled these bills by generating a breathtaking and wide-ranging disinformation campaign. Host Imara Jones explores how the Christian Nationalist movement manufactures “pseudoscientific theories” and then uses the “anti-trans hate machine” to spread disinformation into the mainstream – creating a “rationale” for these bills.
The Anti-Trans Hate Machine: The Plot Against Equality season two focuses in on the big lies perpetuated by the anti-trans movement, how these lies get laundered through some of the biggest and most respected news rooms in the country, and how the ultimate goal of this campaign isn’t just political – it’s focused on creating a world were the existence of trans people is questioned.
“This is for anyone asking ‘how did this happen?’ or ‘how did we get here?’. We unveil the decade-long construction of a pseudoscientific media infrastructure that has been designed to undermine trans people in the United States by using non entertainment and social media to define who we are,” said Imara Jones, CEO and founder of Translash Media and host of ATHM. “We break down the anti-trans playbook, and how the entire campaign to dehumanize transgender people and pass anti-trans laws starts with disinformation.”
