Together Always: United in Diversity: this year’s International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), marked on May 17, will be a powerful call for inclusion and diversity.
The IDAHOBIT Working Group announced that the official theme for the 2023 edition of IDAHOBIT will be Together Always: United in Diversity.
Decided during a large consultation with LGBTQ+ organisations from across the world, the theme will allow for advocacy and celebrations in many forms – from human rights defenders, civil society groups, millions of people in LGBTQ+ communities, and their allies.
At a time when hard-won advances for LGBTQ+ communities around the globe are increasingly under threat, the power of solidarity, allyship and community across identities, borders, and movements has never been more necessary.
Celebrated every year on May 17 in over 130 countries across the world, IDAHOBIT is one of the few global events marked by people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and sex characteristics across the world, together with their allies.
The date was specifically chosen to commemorate the decision by the World Health Organisation in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.
Organisations planning to mark this year’s IDAHOBIT can register their events on the may17.org website.
