Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) is piloting a new PrEP clinic in Brighton & Hove. Called PrEP2U, the clinic runs on a Thursday evening between 4-7pm from their office at 61 Ship Street, Brighton, BN1 1AE. Working in partnership with the SHAC (Sexual Health and Contraception), the clinic is for people who wish to start using PrEP for the first time, or who are not currently sourcing PrEP through an NHS sexual health clinic.
Some people are reluctant to access clinical spaces due to previous negative experiences – as a result, they can miss out on vital healthcare. PrEP2U aims to break down these barriers by providing a community space which is relaxed, friendly and non-judgemental.
PrEP is a pill that protects against HIV – it is taken by HIV negative people before and after sex and is almost 100% effective when taken correctly. THT is encouraging those at increased risk of HIV to consider using it. Since PrEP has become more widely used among gay and bisexual men, rates of new HIV diagnoses has fallen in this group.. PrEP is a game changer in the fight against HIV, and THT are committed to ensuring more people know about it.
The clinic is a one stop shop, involving a full HIV and STI screen with THT staff, followed by a one to one consultation with a specialist PrEP clinician from SHAC. The clinic can also offer HPV and Hep B vaccinations, and there is also opportunity for people to share concerns around their sexual health, sexual behaviour or chems use. THT offers many services they can be referred to for support.
The clinic welcomes anyone who is at an increased risk of getting HIV. This especially includes men who have sex with men, people from Black African communities, trans and non-binary people, and people in sex work.
