Stoneham Park in Hove is celebrating its 100th birthday today.

Cllr Anne Pissaridou  the Labour and Cooperative Councillor for Wish Park who has lobbied hard for extra funding and improvements to the park since her election in 2011 and has played a key role in rallying the community will be drawing the events prize raffle.

The Centenary Festival promises  entertainment for all the family, live music as well as a children’s parade into the park to be met by the Mayor.

Cllr Pissaridou said:

“I’m really looking forward to Saturday and the chance to celebrate Stoneham Park’s centenary. The day will be an excellent showcase of just what a key community asset Stoneham Park, a green flag certified park, is to local residents.  Due to the built up nature of the nearby area many don’t have gardens and the park provides them with an invaluable lifeline by offering an open space they can take their children.

“Ever since I was elected for Wish Ward, I have been working tirelessly to make sure the Council makes the most of Stoneham Park.  I’ve also been working closely with local community groups to get the parks café reopened after it closed earlier this year.

“The improvements that have been made to the park in recent years are welcome, but there is clearly much more that could be done. I will continue to lobby Councillors to see how we can further support and improve Stoneham Park in the years ahead for the countless families and young people that depend upon on it.”
