A shooting outside a Slovakian LGBTQ+ bar has left two dead and a further person – believed to be an employee at the venue – injured.
The suspected gunman responsible for the shooting, which took place near the Teplaren bar in Slovakia’s capital Bratislava on Wednesday evening, was found dead on Thursday morning, local police revealed.
While information on the gunman’s motive has not been released, local media reported he had written social media posts against LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities. Local media also identified the gunman as the son of a former candidate of a far-right political party.
On Thursday, October 13, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Eduard Heger condemned the attack, saying any form of extremism was unacceptable. Meanwhile, President Zuzana Caputova called on the country’s politicians to stop spreading hate.
Following the attack, the venue itself posted on social media: “The pain is unbearable.”
