A mural for Egyptian human rights activist Sarah Hegazi, who took her own life while living in exile in Canada after being arrested, detained and tortured for raising the LGBTQ+ flag at a concert in Cairo in 2017, was revealed at York Grove, Brighton at the weekend.
The mural includes Sarah’s final words – “To the world. You were cruel, but I forgive you” – and Sara Alsherif, who organised the mural painting event, played Sarah’s favourite music while artists worked on it.
Sara Alsherif, said: ‘Thank you to the fantastic artists, and everyone who helped to bring this mural to the light.’
The mural to Sarah Hegazi is located at York Grove, Brighton, BN1 3TT.
