Reverbathon smashes previous fundraising figures

RadioReverb, the independent community radio station, has once again staged a successful fund-raising weekend to benefit its finances.

IN a mammoth 52 hours of non-stop live broadcasting to celebrate eight years on the air, the station has so far raised almost £3,000 over the Reverbathon weekend, a substantial increase on the £2,000 raised last year.

Programmers say the amount raised reflects the desire of residents, listeners and local businesses who want to keep RadioReverb ad-free and independent.

This year’s Reverbathon, which was trending on social media last week and throughout the weekend, saw rap battles between DJs, live music from local bands and a day of female-led shows during International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8.

RadioReverb is run entirely by volunteers and all money raised goes directly back into the running of the station, upgrading equipment and giving an opportunity to bring in new shows and new local voices.

Melita Dennett, Chair of RadioReverb, said: “These are challenging times for community radio, but RadioReverb continues to thrive because we are all about Brighton and Hove, and listeners and sponsors know that. Our volunteers are also committed, highly professional and great ambassadors for a radio station that holds Brighton and Hove at the very heart of what we do.”

The station is still receiving donations following the success of the Reverbathon.
