To mark 50 years since the first Brighton Gay Pride march in July 1973, Gay Liberation, a new exhibition from award-winning photographer Chris Jepson, presents new portraits of veterans of the London Gay Liberation Front and the Sussex Gay Liberation Front, each a poignant testament to the personal narrative of the veterans, reflecting the trials they encountered while navigating the path to acceptance and liberation.
Gay Liberation is showing at Plus X Innovation, Lewes Rd, Brighton BN2 4GL from Tuesday, August 1 to Friday, September 29. More info here.
In addition to Gay Liberation, Chris’ Sussex Gay Liberation Front portraits are also appearing in the official Brighton & Hove Pride Pride at 50 exhibition from Monday, July 31 – Sunday, August 27. Chris curated the exhibition with part one in the foyer of Brighton’s Jubilee Library, featuring archive images of the first Sussex Gay Liberation Front’s Brighton Gay Pride March, and part two in the window gallery with nine new portraits of Sussex Gay Liberation Front veterans.
