Brush Gallery, owned by wife and wife team Hizze and Jojo in the North Laine, present a solo show of new paintings and prints by Brighton based painter Ruth Mulvie for the Brighton Festival.
THE brightly coloured, Hockney-esque and highly collectable artworks are evocative of summer Californian days. The exhibition will launch with a Private View on May 5th and will run throughout May as part of the Artist Open House season.
With their vibrant colours, smiling sunbathers and gleeful swimmers, Ruth Mulvie’s paintings are pure joy. Ruth creates her utopian wonderlands from her loft studio in Brighton. Found imagery and old photographs form the basis of her work – with buckets of colour thrown in.
Ruth has been passionate about art since she was a kid. She trained at Glasgow School of Art and studied painting. At the heart of all of her work is colour. Exploring its endless potential is one of the things she enjoys and spends a lot of time simply mixing and combining colours.
The imagery Ruth picks varies depending on what she feels like painting, but it all fits into several broad themes of pleasure.
