Peccadillo Pictures has acquired the UK and Ireland theatrical and home entertainment rights for CICADA (2020), the multi-award winning feature debut from Matthew Fifer and Kieran Mulcare.
Set in New York 2013, CICADA is an unfolding interracial love story that blurs the line between documentary and fiction as bisexual Ben (Matthew Fifer) develops an intense relationship with Sam (Sheldon D. Brown), which brings painful memories to the surface in an exploration of self-identity and trauma. Co-directed by Fifer and Kieran Mulcare (better known as an actor in Gotham, Jessica Jones), it’s a richly textured drama of uncompromising but heartfelt honesty.
CICADA had its UK premiere at the 64th BFI London Film Festival earlier this year and has gone on to win international awards at New Fest: New York’s LGBT Film Festival; LesGaiCineMad, Madrid International LGBT Film Festival; and Oslo/Fusion International Film Festival.
Tom Abell, MD for Peccadillo, said: “Peccadillo is very proud to be bringing CICADA to the UK and Ireland, it is an exceptional feature film that will reach a wide cinema audience and we are very excited as we prepare for its release next year.”
Jeremy Truong, producer of CICADA, added: “We are so excited to share CICADA with audiences in the UK, and are incredibly lucky to be doing so alongside Peccadillo who has championed some of the best queer stories and filmmakers of the last 20 years”.
CICADA is due to receive a cinema and multi-platform release in Spring 2021.
