Peaceful protest this Wednesday when Church of England General Synod meets to “confirm its homophobic stance against LGBTQ+ people and relationships”

Graham Robson February 6, 2023

Peter Tatchell, Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, and Adam North, Lay Reader and Anglican LGBTQ+ campaigner, have announced a peaceful protest in London this Wednesday, February 8 at 8.30am when the Church of England General Synod meets to “confirm its homophobic stance against LGBTQ+ people and relationships”.

In a joint statement, Peter Tatchell and Adam North said: “Stop Anglican discrimination! Demand marriage equality!

“The official Anglican view is that same-sex relationships are sinful and we must repent. It is refusing to allow same-sex marriages, in defiance of the Equality Act. Instead, the Church will offer LGBTQ+ couples blessing ceremonies, similar to the ones it offers to dogs and guinea pigs. This is an insult! It is not OK!

“Wednesday’s peaceful protest is supported by a coalition of Anglicans, other Christians and non-religious LGBTQ+ rights defenders – both LGBTs and straight allies – all united in opposition to Anglican homophobia.

“Even if you are not Anglican or religious, church discrimination against LGBTs should concern us all.

“We must support Anglicans who wish to marry in their parish churches. This is a right extended to every heterosexual male and female in England, regardless of their religion. But not to LGBTs.

“Please JOIN US to support our just cause for LGBTQ+ equality!”

The peaceful protest meets 8.30am sharp on Wednesday, February 8 outside the entrance to Church House in Deans Yard (to the right of Westminster Abbey), London, SW1P 3JS, as Synod members arrive.
