The Green Party national conference returns to Brighton from September 13-16 at the Metropole Hotel.
Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven has issued a statement welcoming the Greens to the city.
He said:
“I welcome the Green Party to our great City and I hope they enjoy the many wonderful bars, restaurants and other attractions on offer. I am always conscious of the important role conferences play in the local economy.
“In Brighton delegates will find a welcoming and inclusive City and I hope many of the first time visitors will visit again.
“The Coalition Government has demonstrated its commitment to green initiatives and policies, for instance the Government has:
• published the first White Paper on the natural environment in 20 years, containing a series of measures to protect biodiversity and wildlife.
• committed to the target of 15 per cent of our electricity supply coming from renewables by 2020. To help achieve this goal, Government is investing in offshore wind and marine energy.
• pledged £1 billion for the world’s first commercial-scale Carbon Capture and Storage power station.
• encouraged renewable heat through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
The RHI launched for the non-domestic sector in November 2011 – launched a national tree planting campaign – the Big Tree Plant – which has already seen 100,000 trees planted
Simon added:
“I hope delegates will also take a moment to listen to the views of traders and businesses who will tell of the difficulties the increase in parking charges under the Green administration has caused them, and to encourage the Green administration on Brighton and Hove City Council to reverse the damaging parking policies they have pursued.”
