Introducing The Queery – Brighton’s newest queer venue

The Queery is not only Brighton’s newest queer venue; it is also a venture with a mission. It serves as a multifunctional sober space that centres around the value of empowering the queer community. The founders have transformed two entirely stripped rooms into a vegan café come art gallery and a queer radical book shop, which also sells merch from small queer artists.

The space is wheelchair-accessible and volunteers are working towards making it friendlier to neurodivergent people. The project is fully run by volunteers, who cooperatively own it. Membership is offered on a sliding scale, the minimum being £1 a year. To join the co-op, CLICK HERE

Some would think The Queery is a hidden gem, snuck away on a side street in Kemptown, but the project created a buzz from the off. This was clear to see at the packed-out launch party. Alan Sugar-Walls, a celebrated drag king on the scene, hosted an open mic which showcased an array of local talent. Attendees spoke of this night as both fun and wholesome, paying tribute to the fact that the space felt so welcoming to everyone.

With these values in mind, The Queery would like to encourage people from the community to book the space for evening events.
