The annual Act of Hope and Remembrance for those affected by Hate Crime will be taking place at Regent Hall in London on Sunday, October 13. This year, the National Candle will be lit in solidarity with those affected by anti-LGBT+ Hate Crime.
During National Hate Crime Awareness Week, the 10 victims who were included in the London LGBT+ Advisory Group‘s first ‘Thematic Review of LGBT+ Related Murders’, which was published in 2007 and covered six cases that were investigated by the Metropolitan Police Service between 1990 to 2002 with a total of 10 victims, will be remembered. The victims are Michael Boothe, Peter Walker, Christopher Dunn, Perry Bradley III, Andrew Collier, Emanuel Spiteri, Robyn Browne, Jaap Bornkamp, Geoffrey Windsor and David Ridehalgh.
The LGBT+ Advisory Group is a voluntary group of independent LGBTQ+ people working with the Metropolitan Police Service, which advises on and monitors police issues that affect LGBTQ+ people who live in, work in, study in or are visiting London.
The candle will be displayed in St Paul’s Cathedral for the duration of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
The organisers of National Hate Crime Awareness Week said: “Earlier this year we marked the 25th anniversary of the London Nail Bomb attacks on Brixton, Brick Lane and Soho. The attacks were a turning point for police and LGBTQ+ community relations that lead to the formation of the London LGBT Advisory Group.”
