Petition demands Post Office ends its “exclusion of non-binary people”

Graham Robson August 17, 2023

A petition has been launched asking the Post Office to “stop excluding non-binary people from its services”.

The petition was started by an LGBTQ+ campaign called Include Mx, which encourages organisations to add the gender-neutral title Mx to their forms.

The Post Office has adopted the Pride colours as part of its logo on its website which includes stripes representing trans and non-binary people (white, pink and blue) and acknowledged requests to add the title to its general enquiry form in 2020.

Tom Pashby, founder of Include Mx, said: “It is disappointing that the Post Office is still excluding non-binary people, despite having committed to add Mx.

“While the section of the form is optional, the Post Office’s decision to omit Mx sends a signal that it doesn’t take the needs of non-binary people like me seriously.

“Making this simple change would make non-binary people feel seen and welcome to use the critical service which the Post Office provides.”

Over the course of summer 2023, Include Mx successfully pressured Argos into adding Mx, and announced major brands such as Wickes, Debenhams. Boden and Cotswold Outdoors had all added the title, following requests from the LGBTQ+ campaign.
