A Gay Old Time, a new podcast hosted by Brighton-based Gaydio radio presenter Nigel May, is launching on Wednesday, January 31. A celebration of beautiful queer communities, A Gay Old Time sees Nigel interview people of all ages; people who have had to tread their own path to live their real truth, who have fought with their emotions and emerged victorious, who inspire, who aspire and always entertain.
Every week, Nigel speaks to a person from the LGBTQ+ rainbow to hear their story; and there is quite the guestlist; Jonny McGovern, Trinity The Tuck, Charlie Condou, John Partridge, Peppermint and Margaret Cho.
Nigel May said: “Working on the first season of A Gay Old Time has been an absolute joy. I worked as a showbiz journalist for many years and now host on TV and radio so chatting to people about their fabulous lives has always been one of my favourite things to do. I wanted to record a podcast that celebrates just how far our beautiful LGBTQ+ community has come and to showcase its diversity, but also to hear from famous faces within our community who have lived through tougher times and faced struggles to get where they are today.
“To chat about times when maybe life hasn’t always been so easy for our community or for someone wanting to be their true selves and really hear the insider scoop about their lives from their early days. I have found it totally fascinating and hopefully listeners of all ages will do so too.
“There have been moments of hilarious laughter and many joyful stories of triumph but also moments of emotion and heartbreaking tales of rejection and despair too. It’s been a wonderful cocktail of experiences. There are sad bits, funny bits, very rude bits and a lot of surprises. I’ve learnt so many things about the celebrities I’ve chatted to that I didn’t have a clue about before. I came away from every podcast with even more of a respect for the person in question than I already had. It’s been great and I can’t wait to record many more.
