Have You Heard? Stories From My Archive is a new podcast series by Rose Collis – an award-winning, critically-acclaimed author, performer, film-maker, playwright, singer, musician, historian, producer, workshop leader and journalist. Her work spans five decades and includes biography, theatre, documentary film, history, journalism, short fiction, website content, exhibitions, literary talks and educational tours.
In the last two years, her documentary films, The Boy and The Bear (2021) and One For The Books: The Maupin Marathon (2023) have been selected for over 20 international independent film festivals and won 13 awards, including four for ‘Best Documentary Feature’.
After coming out in 1978 aged 20, Rose Collis attended her first Gay Pride March in 1979. This event marked the beginning of a personal, political and cultural journey as lesbian activist, performer, writer and historian. During this time, she has witnessed, participated in and chronicled many key social and political events that had national and international resonances, and this has resulted in the curating of a remarkable and substantial archive featuring a wealth of rare material.
The three episodes of Stranger To The Truth: The Lies and Cover-Ups of Jeremy Thorpe are her first podcasts, inspired by attending an event featuring Norman Scott at the Charleston Festival 2022.
Using her own original archival material as a starting point, Rose Collis explores and unravels how the political and social Establishment colluded with Jeremy Thorpe, one of its most prominent and charismatic figures to protect his career and reputation – regardless of the damage and danger it presented to anyone else.
