Danny Dwyer from Bear-Patrol celebrated his birthday with friends at the Hove Rugby Club on Saturday, June 10.
Entertainment was provided by Jason Lee who compared the evening and Marilyn Monroe act Laura Nixon, Krissie DuCann and Kara Van Park.
Danny asked people attending to make donations to the Sussex Cancer Fund rather than send cards or bring presents.
£2,003.75 was donated which will be used to pay for the supervision of volunteer counsellors who are seeing patients and relatives attending the Sussex Cancer Centre
Julia Lenton from Sussex Cancer Fund, said: “Currently the Sussex Cancer Fund pay for the supervision of volunteer counsellors who are seeing patients and relatives attending the Sussex Cancer Centre, this costs the charity £100 per month, Danny has agreed for the £2003 to go towards this service which means that he is funding two years of volunteer counselling supervision.
“There has been a gradual increase in the number of counselling referrals over the years and as a result we will need to recruit some more volunteer counsellors to support the service – this of course will mean a rise in costs each month for supervision.
“We are so grateful to Danny and the Bear–Patrol for their ongoing support which will really make a difference to cancer patients in the City.”
