Olympic swimmer and LGBTQ+ activist Michael Gunning opened Brighton’s very first Pride Swim at Sea Lanes on Brighton beach on Saturday, October 26, which raised over £1,000 for Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline

Pride Swim, sponsored by Speedo, aims to get thousands of people swimming to connect with others, support their physical and mental health and encourage inclusion, whilst also raising money for charity partner Switchboard, the national LGBTQ+ Support Line.

Michael Gunning said: “We celebrated World Swim Day 2024 in the best way… by making history launching Brighton’s first ever Pride Swim! Swimming is such a special way to bring different communities together and over 100 swimmers took the plunge and helped raise funds for the national LGBTQ+ helpline charity Switchboard, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year!

“It’s a joy to be an ambassador for Speedo and share my passion and love for both elite and community projects… and to see so many faces beaming up at us after the swim made it all worthwhile. Massive well done to everyone for making it happen Pride Swim!”
