Creating Inclusive Residential Care for LGBTQ+ Elders (CIRCLE), a new project led by Dr Jolie Keemink from University of Kent which aims to support residential care providers to be more inclusive towards older LGBTQ+ people, is seeking people to contribute to a resource for care homes on LGBTQ+ inclusion in care.
The aim of the co-design work package is to design a free introductory resource towards LGBTQ+ inclusive care practice, offering a free taster of the Pride in Care programme, facilitating first steps towards inclusive practice and encouraging subsequent sign-up and commitment to a full inclusive practice programme.
There will be up to six two-hour co-design meetings with older LGBTQ+ people and people working in care provision, taking place between October 2023 and March 2024. CIRCLE plans to recruit five older LGBTQ+ people (variation in sexuality, gender, ethnicity, disability), and five people working in care provision (also diverse). Those taking part will be paid for their attendance and it is hoped to give people working in care provision a thank-you voucher.
