Local HIV charity the Sussex Beacon has awarded the new general manager of The Sussex pub in Hove with a certificate after the venue raised an incredible £5,000 for the charity.
The Sussex Beacon said on Facebook: “In August 2021 we met with Mike, the new general manager at The Sussex, to discuss a proposed Marlene Dietrich tribute night, to be held in aid of the Sussex Beacon.
“That evening was a great success, with many more drag nights, comedy nights and other fundraising activities taking place, to support our work at the Beacon.
“Very sadly Mike passed away towards the end of last year, but we were delighted to be able to recently present his husband Lee with two certificates, acknowledging and celebrating the funds Mike, Lee, their delightful team, a number of performers and The Sussex’s incredibly kind customers raised in aid of the Sussex Beacon.
“Last year’s total was almost £970, with a massive amount of almost £5,300 being raised since that very first event. A truly outstanding achievement.
“Mike was a true community leader and, with Lee by his side, tirelessly supported a number of very worthy causes. We dedicate this post to his memory and send our heartfelt thanks to everyone concerned.”
