The Brighton & Hove 5km Rainbow Run, organised by LGBTQ+ running group Brighton & Hove Frontrunners, is to take place at 7pm on Friday, August 4 – the same weekend as Brighton & Hove Pride – ideal for those wanting to include it in their Pride celebrations.
This year’s chosen charity is the Brighton Rainbow Fund, which is the central hub for fundraising within the Brighton & Hove LGBTQ+ communities, and distributes grants to local projects which benefit, and make a difference, to the lives of hundreds of individuals within those communities.
Hosted by drag queen Mabel, the 5km Rainbow Run will take place in Hove Park, just a short walk from Hove Station and the seafront. Organisers promise a festival/party atmosphere, making this a memorable and fun event with lots of colour, live DJ sets, drag queens and other entertainers. The run is also a perfect alternative to the cancelled park runs that weekend.
Brighton & Hove Frontrunners say: “We are encouraging runners of all abilities to join us from the local community, our running friends in Brighton & Hove and new friends from outside of town.
“Following on from the feedback from last year we have increased the ticket numbers to 500. We have moved the registration desk closer to the start. We are also in the process of making the run an official English Athletics event.”
The run will be timed (this year using chip timing) and all finishers will be awarded a bespoke Rainbow Run medal. Prizes will be awarded to the top male, female and non-binary runners. Results will be available to view online after the event. The minimum age is 14.
Brighton & Hove Frontrunners add: “We will continue our special prizes awarded to the best fancy dress, so don your best colourful and sparkly Pride outfit for the run!
“We are also looking for volunteers or run makers who can help on the day with the event. If you or a friend or family member are interested, please contact info@brightonrainbowrun.co.uk.”
