On Sunday, April 10, as part of the BM Ride, Chris Jepson and Rory Finn will cycle 50km on the roads of Brighton & Hove ahead of the Brighton Marathon.
Chris and Rory are fundraising for Trans Can Sport, a not-for-profit Brighton & Hove project dedicated to transforming the wellbeing of trans people through physical activity. To donate, CLICK HERE
Trans people want to engage in activities, both sporting and social, like everyone else, and Trans Can Sport was formed to provide a safe space to allow these things to happen in a supportive, friendly and non-competitive environment.
Chris is an award-winning portrait and documentary photographer, while Rory is a health worker for Terrence Higgins Trust. They are both passionate about diversity and inclusion and support the work of Trans Can Sport who want to resolve and avoid some of the barriers that stop trans people accessing sport.
Trans Can Sport creates a safe space for trans people to use freely, and provide a supportive environment that allows people to connect with their bodies in a positive way.
Chris Jepson says: “Last week was Trans Day of Visibility, a day to celebrate the accomplishments of transgender, gender-nonconforming and non-binary people while acknowledging that work still needs to be done. One day later the UK government went back on its word to ban all forms of conversion abuse.
“By actively excluding trans and non binary people from the ban, they have decided to condone conversion abuse for the trans community.
“The government’s own research shows trans people are at an increased risk of this abhorrent practice, and this decision allows conversion abusers to keep harming trans people without punishment. Now more than ever, grassroots trans organisations need our support.

“Trans people want to engage in activities, both sporting and social, like everyone else, and Trans Can Sport was formed to provide a safe space to allow these things to happen in a supportive, friendly and non-competitive environment.”The current focus on unfairly disqualifying trans, GNC and NB athletes from competition has an indirect effect of excluding all trans people from participating in sports and fitness, and enjoying the health and well being benefits of exercise.”
