Following an inspection by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors in December 2015, Martlets Hospice in Hove has been rated as ‘good’ overall and their caring services have been rated as ‘outstanding’.
Inspectors noted how staff at the hospice involve and treat people with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
The report highlights staff communication, goes on to say that the service provides outstanding end of life care and people were enabled to experience a comfortable, dignified, and pain free death.
Inspectors reported that: “Peoples feedback about the caring approach and staff was overwhelmingly positive.”
And patients told the CQC that: “The care is second to none, the staff go the extra mile as a matter of course.”
Martlets CEO, Imelda Glackin, said:“We’re exceptionally pleased with the results of the inspection, to be rated ‘good’ in all areas is wonderful however to receive a rating of ‘outstanding ‘is a reflection of the amazing work that happens every day at Martlets. To know that the people we’re caring for described us as ‘being an outstanding place to be, where the care is second to none’ is a real achievement and it’s great the CQC recognised this”.
The Martlets Hospice provides end of life care services to adults with terminal illness including cancer. Hospice facilities comprise of an 18 bed InPatient Unit, a Hospice at Home Service, and Day Services for patients and their carers. The Patient and Family Support team offer practical and emotional support to the families and carers of patients including helping them through bereavement. The Martlets also works with the Sussex Community NHS Trust to deliver the Palliative Care Partnership; this provides a single point of contact for people affected by life limiting illness in Brighton & Hove.
