Thursday, March 24: Screening – Otherness Archive presents Vestida de Azul (1983) by Antonio Giménez-Rico: Vestida de Azul (1983, directed by Antonio Giménez-Rico) provides a rare and intimate look into the day-to-day lives of six trans women in post-Franco Madrid. Contrary to media portrayals of trans people at the time, the film’s deliberate fly-on-the-wall approach gives its subjects space to tell their own stories untinted by the lens of a social agenda.
This event will shine a light on the historical context of the invaluable documentary Vestida de Azul and highlight the importance of the work that goes into preserving and archiving trans histories.
The event will open with a brief introduction by Ailo Ribas on behalf of Otherness Archive. Then there will be a short talk by E-J Scott on the importance of trans archives, followed by the screening of Vestida de Azul. There will be a 15-minute Q&A session after the film where the audience can ask questions.
