Brighton & Hove LGBTQ+ Switchboard, in partnership with University of Brighton‘s Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender (CTSG), is hosting a solution focused, community-led conference on Thursday, June 30 to provide a springboard for provision of safe LGBTQ+ affirmative housing.
Last year Switchboard released a report into the impact of Covid on LGBTQ+ communities in Brighton. The report highlighted the challenges experienced by LGBTQ+ communities across all aspects of housing. Switchboard found 60% of young people were experiencing an unsafe living situation, including 43% of those who are trans/non-binary.
The conference will have four workstreams:
- Designing future LGBTQ+ affirmative housing and spaces
- Older people’s housing needs (including residential and care homes)
- Homelessness in LGBTQ+ communities
- Young people’s housing needs
In the evening there is the chance to attend an invitation only private screening of the documentary Less at the Ledward Centre. Produced by Stonewall Housing, the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ homelessness charity, Less explores the realities of queer homelessness, with topics including homophobic and transphobic abuse. This will be followed by a panel discussion and refreshments.
Tickets £10 + booking fee, which include refreshments and lunch. To book, CLICK HERE
There are a reserved a number of free tickets for community members. Contact jane.woodhull@switchboard.org.uk if you are an LGBTQ+ community member and would like to attend, or if cost is a barrier for your organisation.
