Kathy Caton, Brighton Gin‘s Founder, has been appointed to the prestigious Gin Guild as Board Director. In the coveted role Kathy will champion smaller distilleries advocating for the advantages that joining the respected industry body affords artisan producers in the UK and worldwide.
The Gin Guild was established in 2012 by the Worshipful Company of Distillers, one of London’s traditional Livery Companies, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1638. The Gin Guild works at the heart of the distilling industry to provide and facilitate a wider opportunity for those involved in the gin industry. The Guild operates to protect, promote and invigorate the distillation of quality ‘London’ gin in the UK and worldwide and brings together gin distillers and industry leaders all involved in the production, promotion, distribution and consumption of gin.
Kathy will provide leadership and focus to the promotion of gin and protection for the gin category in the UK and beyond. Kathy combines her love of gin with a passion for radio and is an award-winning freelance broadcaster, producer and presenter, still hosting a weekly show on BBC Radio Sussex and Surrey.
Kathy said: “As someone who makes a premium product with love and care, I am delighted to be involved with an organisation that champions quality and stands up for gin. It’s an amazing organisation. Some smaller distilleries like us may not realise the Gin Guild is for them, but that is quite the opposite.
“There are some absolute titans of the drinks industry involved, including Christopher Hayman of Hayman’s Gin, and Dr Anne Brock from Bombay Sapphire to name just two. The team is amazing, but I hope I can bring a different perspective and attract lots of smaller members of the distilling community, spreading the word about the Guild.”
