Applications are now open for a new Engagement Fund for BME communities in the city, which aims to support local community groups, voluntary organisations and not-for-profit social enterprise.
Councillor Steph Powell, co-chair of the Tourism, Equalities, Communities & Culture Committee, said: “This fund is aimed at improving well-being and promoting fairness for BME communities in the city as part of our work to tackle inequality and towards becoming an anti-racist city.
“We’ve set up the fund to make it as accessible as possible so that smaller grassroots groups can benefit.
“The first round of these grants supported a wide variety of community projects doing some very valuable work. I’m very pleased we’re able to offer this funding again.”
The fund is open to organisations that:
- Are BME led and/or have a predominantly BME membership;
- Have an annual income of £20,000 or less;
- Aim to improve well-being, build cohesion or promote fairness;
- Groups must have a governing document and are expected to have a bank account or be in the process of opening one.
The deadline for application is December 10, 2021. Groups can apply for grants of up to £2,000 out of a total fund of £15,000. All grants will need to be spent by May 31, 2022.
