During the course, you will learn ways to make services safer and more LGBTQ+ inclusive by exploring ways of identifying and challenging homophobia, biphobia and transphobia at home, school, college or work. Although trans/gender identity issues will be covered in this session, the emphasis of this course is more broadly aimed at the whole LGBTQ+ community, due to the fact Allsorts run a separate course on gender identity and trans issues.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes:
- Explore the challenges faced by LGBTU+ children and young people and the impact of these on their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
- Examine current LGBTU+ terminology and explore common myths about LGBTU+.
- Examine relevant legislation and how this applies to organisations providing services.
- Explore how to identify and challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, insults and language.
- Examine how to create an LGBTQ+ inclusive and safer-space environment.
1.5-Hour Session: This session is aimed at people who feel they already have a reasonable knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting LGBTU+ young people, but would like to check their knowledge is up to date. This session will have a Q&A with the Allsorts trainer and an LGBTU+ young person.
3-Hour Session: This session is aimed at people who want to significantly increase their knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting LGBTU+ young people. You will explore issues in much greater depth, and there will be a Q&A with the Allsorts trainer and an LGBTU+ young person.
