Photographic exhibition – #ALifeMoreOrdinary

Graham Robson January 8, 2019

#ALifeMoreOrdinary, a photographic exhibition showcasing six portraits of Sussex women standing together to raise awareness of local support services that have helped them overcome violence, assault and abuse, will be open to the public at Jubilee Library in Brighton from January 14–20.

SUSSEX Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne has decided to dedicate the week-long campaign to promote the online directory of support services, Safe:Space Sussex, and encourage victims of crime to reach out for help and take that first step to regaining their version of ‘a life more ordinary’.

Katy said: “I am extremely proud to fund our local support services in Sussex that enable victims and their families to cope and recover. I wanted to celebrate their success and dedicate a week-long campaign to showcase how these services have helped people regain ‘A Life More Ordinary’.

“I commend these courageous women who are brave enough to share their journey of recovery in the hopes that others will be brave enough to seek help and begin theirs.”

The women featured in the exhibition are:
♦   Alice, a transgender woman who’s been a victim of hate crime, raising awareness of LGBT Switchboard;
♦   Natalie, a woman who’s been a victim of domestic abuse, raising awareness of The Portal;
♦   Poppy, a creative woman who’s writing again after years of domestic abuse, raising awareness of The Portal;
♦   Norma, who can finally sing again after years of domestic abuse, raising awareness of Action on Elder Abuse;
♦   Lorraine, who was a victim of stalking but now has the freedom to walk again, raising awareness of Veritas Trust; Vivienne, who has taken back control after being a victim of sexual assault, raising awareness of Victim Support Young Witness.Service.
