“Not everyone in the Bible is cisgender.” A British Anglican LGBTQ+ group has argued the Bible affirms trans identity

A British Anglican LGBTQ+ group has argued the Bible affirms trans identity, asserting “not everyone in the Bible is cisgender.”

The new resource, part of the “Bible Affirms” series hosted by LGBTQ Faith UK, contends that the Bible includes “some clear queer characters” and offers as examples eunuchs and women engaging in traditionally masculine roles.

“Not everyone in the Bible is cisgender. Nor is everyone in the Bible biologically or anatomically male or female,” states the text, written by Ann Reddecliffe.

“In the Bible, the clearest example of this are eunuchs, who can be seen as the biblical ‘ancestors’ of trans people,” the text continues.

“Some people were born with poorly formed male genitals or missing male genitals,” it declares. “In contemporary terms, they would be intersex, but when the Bible was written, they would have been eunuchs.”

According to the resource, eunuchs were welcomed and could be full members of the early Christian church, “without having to be totally male or totally female.”

The text cites the story told in chapter 8 of the Acts of the Apostles in which the apostle Philip baptises an Ethiopian eunuch in charge of the treasury of the queen of the Ethiopians.

“We can put modern labels of intersex or queer or trans onto him, but a different label would be ‘child of God,’” the text states. “God sent an angel and an apostle to bring him into the church, not as a second-class worshipper, but as a full and equal member.”

Regarding “intersex” characters in the Bible, one of the “most likely” is the Samaritan woman that Jesus meets in the gospel of John, chapter 4, the resource affirms, without explaining how a woman who has had 5 husbands qualifies as “intersex.”

The important thing is, Jesus “knows her situation and he shows her respect,” the text maintains, and “He affirms her.”

Moving on to “Q,” the text states that understanding queer in terms of gender performance “shows some clear queer characters,” one of the most obvious of whom is Deborah, as recounted in the book of Judges.

Deborah “is the only recorded female leader of Israel” and when the Israelites were attacked by the Canaanites, “it was Deborah who led the army into battle,” the text contends.

“Going to war was a very male thing for a woman to do,” it adds.

‘The best example in history of internet radicalisation.’ JK Rowling under fire after stating there are ‘no trans kids’

JK Rowling has come under fire after stating there are ‘no trans kids’ on social media platform X.

The Harry Potter author, who was responding to a critic who accused her of ‘hateful focus on trans kids’, said: ‘There are no trans kids. No child is “born in the wrong body”. There are only adults like you, prepared to sacrifice the health of minors to bolster your belief in an ideology that will end up wreaking more harm than lobotomies and false memory syndrome combined.’

Commenting under Rowling’s post, one user said: ‘Most transgender adults were once transgender children. Denying their existence doesn’t erase them, it does however make it harder for them to get the support and care they need.’

In a repost, trans activist India Willhoughby said: ‘[Rowling] refuses to meet actual trans kids – or their parents – in the real world, despite umpteen offers.’

Rowling has been the focus of controversy over the last few years for her views on women’s rights and trans issues as she repeatedly asserts ‘sex cannot be changed’

In August, Rowling described Algerian boxer Imane Khalife, who previously failed to meet gender eligibility criteria, as a ‘male who knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment’.

In June 2020 Rowling said she knew and ‘loved trans people’ but added that ‘erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives’.

In November, American production firm HBO was criticised after announcing that Rowling would serve as an executive producer on its new Harry Potter TV series.

In a statement released at the time, HBO said: ‘We are proud to once again tell the story of Harry Potter – the heartwarming books that speak to the power of friendship, resolve and acceptance.

‘JK Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.’

Both men are scheduled to appear before Lewes Crown Court on Monday, December 30.

Gay football star Josh Cavallo unveils plans to build a welcoming, inclusive getaway in Bali

Gay Australian football star Josh Cavallo has unveiled plans to build a welcoming, inclusive getaway in Bali where he says guests can “truly feel free to be themselves”.

Revealing the exciting plans on Instagram, the sports star said: “I’m building a hotel… I still can’t believe it’s coming to life!

“After years of dreaming, planning, and imagining, the moment is finally here.

“I can’t wait to take you along on this incredible journey, from blueprints to keys. It’s a place I wanted to create for people travelling to feel safe.”

Due to open late 2025, the dream project, a joint venture with his fiancé Leighton Morrell, will be a luxurious resort in the village of Cepaka.

Josh and Leighton, an electrician, got engaged in March 2024 in the athlete’s home city of Adelaide. The footballer got down on one knee to propose to Leighton on his home turf at Coopers Stadium.

Andrei Kotov, a travel agent who was arrested for violating the ban on “LGBT propaganda” in Russia, found dead in his cell in Moscow

Andrei Kotov, a travel agent who was arrested for violating the ban on “LGBT propaganda” in Russia, has been found dead in his cell in Moscow where he awaited trial for “extremism charges”.

The body of Kotov, who was accused of arranging ‘gay tours’ in Russia and abroad, was allegedly found with signs of suicide. His death was confirmed by his lawyer Leysan Mannapova, as well as Eva Merkachyova, a member of the Human Rights Council.

The 40-year-old entrepreneur, director of Men Travel, became a victim of the broad crackdown on anyone deemed not to have a lifestyle that aligns with Vladimir Putin‘s “traditional values”.

And now reports claim Mr Kotov has killed himself in the pre-trial detention centre in Moscow. A human rights group called OVD-Info also say Mr Kotov was beaten during his arrest last month.

A source said today: “Kotov was found dead. The preliminary cause of death is suicide. An investigation is underway into the incident.”

Kotov was arrested in late November. According to the Moscow court system, police believed Kotov was organising tours that involved “propaganda of the ideology of the LGBT movement.”

Kotov denied any wrongdoing and accused police of torture. “My phones have photos and videos of participants going to museums, sailing on a motorboat and sunbathing. It is perfectly clear that these were ordinary tours. There was no propaganda of any kind, let alone extremism,” Kotov said shortly after his arrest.

Throughout 2024, Russian police raided multiple gay bars, clubs and “LGBTQ+ gatherings”. In March, a court in Orenburg, city near the border with Kazakhstan, ordered the arrest of a manager and an art director of local gay nightclub, Pose.

Althought homosexuality itself is not banned in Russia, courts and law enforcement have broad discretion in defining what constitutes “propaganda” of same-sex relations.

“Queer and radical” bookshop in Darlington will be “very much missed” after founder announces its closure

The founder of a “queer and radical” Darlington bookshop has announced the “difficult decision” to close the shop, which has been championing LGBTQ+ literature since it opened its doors in October 2023

Since opening The Queerish Bookshop, Megan Hemsley has been providing a venue for the community outside of pride events, while selling a range of “radical and LGBTQ+” books.

However, the young bookseller announced on social media on Saturday, December 28 that the physical store would be shutting for good due to various factors, including workload and footfall.

They said: “Hey gays, so there’s no really easy way to say this but I have made the difficult decision to shut the brick-and-mortar store for The Queerish Bookshop.

“I created the bookshop out of a strong passion to bring to life a physical queer space for the community in Darlington and the North East, but multiple factors have led to my decision to close the physical store.

Megan Hemsley

“As mentioned in a previous post, I have been juggling self-employment with traditional employment for years now and my life is quite unbalanced and stressful as a result of this.

“In 2025, I want to begin to focus more on my well-being and move away from my workaholic tendencies.

“Equally, while the space has been managing to cover its overheads thanks to your support, most days the bookshop is quiet.

“I didn’t know when I started how the shop would be received and I’m honestly chuffed with the results, but the reality is the space can’t be sustained with the lack of footfall/tourism a small town like Darlington gets.”

The young entrepreneur said going forward she plans to focus her energy on The Queerish Book Club, the store’s monthly book club for adults specialising in queer literature.

The news was met with sadness from “gutted” fans, with one saying: “So sorry to hear this news but I know how hard it is to pull something like this off.”

Another added: “Oh this is such sad news, but completely understandable. I hope you manage to find a better work/life balance. The shop will be very much missed.”

Married At First Sight UK’s Ella Morgan shares defiant message to anti-trans trolls as she opens up about her own transition

Married At First Sight UK‘s Ella Morgan, who has joined the cast of Snow White and the Seven Drag Queens in Brighton, has shared a defiant message to anti-trans trolls as she opened up about her own transition.

The reality star, 30, took to Instagram with a slew of throwback snaps and explained that she’d ‘always been a girl’ and now her outside appearance matched how she felt on the inside.

Ella shared snaps of photos as a child, alongside her supportive family and as a music fan meeting celebs including Rihanna and Alexandra Burke.

Marvelling at the journey she said that while some people would never understand the issue, all she asked was for respect after being ‘born in the wrong body’.

Ella, who became Married at First Sight and Celebs Go Dating‘s first ever trans participant, penned in an emotional captioned:  ‘A reminder to myself on a day I’m not feeling great, I remember how far I’ve come on this crazy journey called life, I’m so proud of myself and also little Evan,

‘And that in a world where you can be kind, remember you can also be ANYTHING (anything is possible, don’t give up), be LOVED and be AUTHENTICALLY YOURSELF I’ve always been Ella inside …’.

‘Sometimes I inspire myself, like girl you went through all that & kept going (and always did it with a smile) You had to be that person to become this one’.

She went on: ‘Being transgender is not just a medical transition or about surgery and the way you look. It’s discovering who you are, being brave and strong, living your life authentically,’

‘Loving yourself inside and out, and spreading that love towards other people and accepting one another, no matter the difference ‘.

‘Some people will never get it, or understand. And that’s fine. All I ask for is respect weather you get it or not. I am simply a girl who was born in the wrong body’.

Before adding: ‘My outside now matches how I’ve always felt inside. I didn’t want to become a girl – I AM and have always been a girl’.

The trans activist recently found love with boyfriend Alex James Ali, after sparking up a connection on Celebs Go Dating.

It’s ‘because I look hot’! TAYCE, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race, hits back at people criticising their participation in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special

Tayce, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, has hit back at people criticising their participation in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, saying it’s ‘because I look hot’

The 30-year-old Welsh drag queen will take to the floor alongside Strictly pro Kai Widdrington in the hopes of becoming not only the first drag star to compete and win the festive dancing competition.

After they were unveiled as the second confirmed star during an episode of It Takes Two earlier this year, disgruntled fans soon took to social media to complain about the appointment with pearl clutching during Tayce’s first interview with host Fleur East.

However, both Widdrington and Tayce have been ignoring the outside noise, putting on a united front when they stepped out to the premiere of hit musical Wicked last month.

And ahead of the episode of Christmas Day, Tayce has decided to address the backlash head-on, insisting it’s not dampening their spirits.

“I’ve seen hate, I’ve seen it’s controversial, it’s provocative but that’s all the things that I am I wouldn’t change that for the world,” Tayce said.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race star continued: “I think there was a lot of backlash from people being like, ‘Oh, it’s the man or they’re taking up a woman’s space’, and things like that.

“I think some people honestly just have a bit of a complex because I look hot and they can’t take it. It’s true,” Tayce remarked to Mail Online.

Speaking directly to those who’ve issued complaints, Tayce advised: “If you’re a bit angry and offended, I’m probably doing something right.”

Tayce competed in the second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, winning the main challenge in episode 5, The RuRuvision Song Contest, and was the first ever contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK to survive four lip-syncs and win three of them, and is therefore often called a “lip-sync assassin”. She made it to the finale and, alongside Bimini, placed joint runner-up to Lawrence Chaney.

Madonna reveals how friends’ deaths sparked her fight against AIDS

Queen of Pop and gay icon Madonna turned grief into action by becoming a staunch AIDS activist following the devastating loss of her circle of friends during the catastrophic epidemic.

The legendary pop star’s brother Christopher Ciccone – who passed away in October 2024 due to prostate cancer – was heard in uncovered tapes how the deaths of her gay friends drove her to help and support AIDS victims.

Among her heartfelt endeavours, she covered the medical costs for British artist Martin Burgoyne until his passing at just 23 in 1986 and even persuaded her then-husband Sean Penn to fetch experimental drugs from Mexico that offered a glimmer of hope against the relentless disease.

The Times has Madonna on record expressing her despair over her friend’s fate: “What could I do? I loved him. And people with AIDS are treated like they’re lepers or something. If they contract AIDS, all their friends disappear. That’s not a friend. How could I desert him? He was really my best friend.”

The Vogue singer had a creative partnership with Martin, after their initial meeting where he slung drinks as a bartender at an East Village club. Their friendship flourished; they became roommates, and he played crucial roles in both managing her first club tour and crafting the cover art for 1983’s Burning Up single.

In poignant recollections captured in these unearthed recordings from her brother, set to feature in the forthcoming 90-minute Sky documentary Becoming Madonna, Christopher speaks of his sister’s decision to dedicate her 1987 Who’s That Girl? tour to Martin’s memory, which helped rake in $400,000 for the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

Christopher Ciccone was quoted by The Times as stating: “The AIDS benefit that we did at Madison Square Garden was emotionally taxing for everybody.” He added, “Especially for [Madonna], because of Martin. There had been so many friends of ours who had AIDS.”

Trans healthcare organisation led by former Mermaids CEO Susie Green vows to continue helping children access puberty blockers

Anne Trans Healthcare, a trans healthcare organisation led by former Mermaids CEO Susie Green, has vowed to continue helping children access puberty blockers despite them being banned by Keir Starmer’s Labour government.

The organisation, which has announced it will maintain its services facilitating access to the drugs through overseas doctors, despite Labour’s decision to make the temporary prohibition indefinite.

Speaking to The Times, Susie Green, Anne Health Director and Co-Founder, said: “Yes, Anne Health is supporting people to access legal routes to gender-affirming healthcare, following WPATH guidelines. Yes, we will continue to do so despite a UK-wide ban.

“And we do it because to do otherwise would be morally and ethically wrong. The ban is cruel, prejudicial, and frankly inhumane.”

Several Labour and Green Party MPs opposed the ban, which was announced by Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, arguing it represented an attack on trans children and a “breach of young people’s human rights”.

In an Instagram post aimed, Anne Trans Healthcare declared it would continue facilitating access to puberty blockers.

The organisation stated: “We offer a legal, compassionate, and supportive routes to accessing puberty blockers with medical oversight from experienced endocrinologists.”
