PREVIEW: We’re Still Here!: The JEWish Cabaret

June 9, 2017

We’re Still Here!

The JEWish Cabaret

Waterloo East Theatre, London

“We’re Still Here!” is a tribute to the Queer songwriters of the Jewish community who have transformed and defined music and theatre over the years.

This performance aims to raise funds and awareness in aid of the LGBT+ community in Chechnya, who are currently being persecuted for their identity.

The performers – not all Jewish or LGBT+, will present songs by iconic writers (Bernstein, Sondheim, Ebb, Lippa, Finn and many more) with some queer twists to keep the audience on their toes.

The JEWish Cabaret is a group of British and Israeli performers who draw on the Jewish tradition to create tongue in cheek musical evenings with some connection to Jewish culture. Their aim is to enjoy Jewish tradition while dabbling in light blasphemy.

A spokesperson said: “As Jews, We’re Still here decided that we cannot ignore this atrocity and felt the need to do something, while still delivering an evening of fun and humour. Therefore our performance fully embraces both the Jewish and Queer identities of the musicians and writers we decided to showcase. Our goal is to shout out loud that we’re here, we’re Queer, and people better get used to it.”
