This is… #DALEYPOP!

Music has been embedded in my life ever since I was in the womb, my Mum and Dad basically raised me on music, especially POP music! I grew up listening to Madonna, Mariah, Kylie, Spice Girls, Britney Spears… even AQUA! I love sharing my favourite songs and album every month with the world from Scene HQ! Follow me on Twitter @DaleMelita x @daleypopscene and Instagram @itsdalemelitabitch x @daleypopscene and here’s your #DaleyPOP playlist for this month.

Miley Cyrus – Flowers

YAY, Miley is back after teasing us ‘Flowers’ on social media and during the Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party live special, which she co-hosted with country music legend and her actual real-life godmother, Dolly Parton, in case you didn’t know.

Taken from her upcoming eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, the track has became the most streamed track on Spotify in one week with 96,032,624 plays for the week ending 19 January 2023 (OMG!) – over seven million more streams than the previous record holder, Adele, with Easy On Me and also, is number 1 in 12 countries around the world! What a fab start to the year for our Miley.

Miley released the track on her ex-hubby’s (Liam Hemsworth) birthday btw (13 January) and makes direct references to their relationship in the lyrics. She’s also basically replying to Bruno Mars’ lyrics in When I Was Your Man which Liam once dedicated to Miley (allegedly). I’m living for the pettiness of it all and it’s simply a BOP.

Everything But The Girl – Nothing Left To Lose

Eighty-four years later, (well 21 years to be more precise), pop duo and husband and wife Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt have returned to making music together. I missed EBTG’s music like the deserts miss the rain (sorry, couldn’t resist)!

Tracey said: ”We wanted to come back with something modern-sounding,” and “We just wanted to make a piece of work that would sound great now in 2023. That was the driver.”

Bringing super fresh and nostalgic vibes at the same time, Tracey’s voice has matured like fine wine. Oh and they have a new album out in April called Fuse so we have more songs to look forward to besties!

TIN – Buzzed

Aussie singer/songwriter TIN “writes music about his gay f*ckboy life”, which I think a lot of us can relate to in one way or another, can I get an amen in here?!

Buzzed is the second single from the upcoming EP out later this year and it slaps so hard! I can so imagine this being performed at Eurovision and doing really well.

The song is basically about partying in the gay community and TIN said: “The world of partying for gay men is a whole discourse in itself. We have our own language, we have our own traditions and having come out of the pandemic a different person, I’ve fallen in love with this world all over again. I feel like a kid in a candy store and this song is anthem to that celebration.” Slay!

Rita Ora – You Only Love Me

Riiiita Ora has released her first single with new label BMG and this time she’s giving us everything we want… and need with this pop anthem!

Rita said: “With You Only Love Me and my upcoming album, I wanted to capture the vulnerability I’ve experienced as I opened myself up to love and entered a new phase of life. Learning to let go of the past to make way for new experiences is a deeply personal process, and one I felt compelled to document through my music – the journey was not always easy, but I’ve come out of it stronger and filled with more love than I ever thought possible.”

ELLA A – Waist

So my partner and I are kinda unhealthily Eurovision obsessed and we watch most of the selection contests from all around the world and we were watching the Norway national selection show (Melodi Grand Prix) and ELLA A popped up and served with this banger!

She was robbed though and unfortunately didn’t get through to the final so she won’t be in Liverpool but she’s one to watch, NOW SHUT UP AND WATCH MY WAIST.

Sam Tompkins – Die For Someone

Brighton rising star Sam Tompkins is making me feel all the feels with this emosh track and he said: “You know that feeling where you’re just like: I kinda wanna fall in love but I’m also scared to do it because of what happened last time? Die For Someone is the soundtrack to that feeling.”

Naww, Sam is Justin Bieber’s BFF btw! In 2021 Justin liked Sam’s music so he followed Sam on Instagram, DM’d him, FaceTimed him and they hung out in LA in the studio after going for lunch together. Sam used to busk in Brighton too at the age of 16 so yeah!

ALBUM OF THE MONTH

Ava Max – Diamonds & Dancefloors

Ava Max releasing album of the year within the first month of the year I can’t get over it! Every single song is such a catchy and euphoric pure europop anthem.

Diamonds and Dancefloors is one of those rare, non-skip albums. Ava said: “Diamonds represent relationships, and Dancefloors represent letting go and being free,” and “I wanted to make dance music, but it couldn’t be super happy. It’s vulnerable instead. I’ve never talked about my personal life in the songs, but I do now. The album is basically heartbreak on the dancefloor.”

WHAT. AN. ALBUM. SERIOUSLY. PURE POP!

My fave tracks are every single one (obvs) but Ghost is my number 1 fave as I’m writing this but it could change… Sleepwalker slaps as do Million Dollar Baby, Weapons, Hold Up (Wait A Minute), Diamonds & Dancefloors, Turn Off the Lights, Cold As Ice, Last Night On Earth, Maybe You’re The Problem, In The Dark, Get Outta My Heart, One Of Us and Dancing’s Done.

I need to mention Ava’s debut album while I’m here too – Heaven & Hell – as I’m still not over that album.

I think it’s safe to say Ava Max has solidified herself as one of the main pop girls.
