Poppycock is an award-winning drag queen, performing up and down the country at most of the nation’s top cabaret venues. With a background in musical theatre, her shows are packed with immaculate vocals, insane dance routines and of course absolute poppycock! Here she caught up with Graham Robson to tell us what she’s been up to and her plans for the future…
How have you been keeping yourself busy?
I’ve been doing a live stream show every Wednesday and Sunday at 8pm on my Instagram and FB pages, all accompanied on the acoustic guitar by my very talented partner.
Has it gone down well?
We’ve had a great response will a really loyal bunch of people that watch it every time! We just have a great laugh and spread some joy.
How does it compare with live performances?
Well the main difference is that I don’t have to wear as many pairs of tights ha. I do miss having an audience but I do get to sing with a guitar and really just jam it out.
Do you know of any other performers doing similar things?
Yeah there’s quite a few I think, we’ve all got to do something to stop us from going crazy! Plus we need to keep lifting spirits in these uncertain times.
Any tips to keep our cheer us up?
Pick up little projects. I’ve been doing so much more sewing, and it’s been super rewarding. My biggest tip is watch my show haha.
What are your plans for when this is all over?
Hopefully go back to normal(ish) but I’ll have learnt a load of new songs and have a tonne of new costumes.
What do you miss the most?
My audiences, I love being a Drag Queen so much and a huge part of that is the people. I miss getting to have fun with everyone.
Any words of wisdom?
Just keep smiling, this will all be over at some point and we can all have a huge party together. Also a huge shout out to all our key workers at the moment, keeping us all safe!
