PREVIEW: Online Season From The Phoenix Arts Club

A cabaret gem of a venue, nestling beneath the Phoenix Theatre in London’s Charing Cross Road , starts this week with weekly on-line concerts that will bring us cabaret, theatre, music and comedy.

The series marks a year of digital and live performances at the Phoenix Arts Club, which has included its Saturday Supershow and its adult panto Alice In Streamingland. Online From The Phoenix Arts Club will run weekly on Fridays, starting on 26 February.

The independently-owned venue has provided live entertainment for 30 years. Colin Savage, Financial Director, told me : “ Well, theatres wouldn’t have dreamed of putting a show online a year ago. But look how we have changed since March 2020. We’ve led the way with live-streamed cabaret from artists’ homes once a week for the whole of the first lockdown, and multi-camera streamed shows going out next month with the help of the Arts Council , providing essential camera equipment. With our growing knowledge , we can’t wait to bring our audiences our brilliant diverse artists once again – moving to live shows in the venue in, say , April “,

“We will be providing all our weekly shows live and online from the middle of the year” , he added.

The line-up for the next month of Fridays is:

26 February: Dusty Limits and Michael Roulston present  a night of songs of beauty, pathos and vicious satire.

5 March : STAND UP 4 WOMEN is back to celebrate International Women’s  Day with comedy but also an awareness of domestic abuse, to raise funds for Solace Women’s Aid . The line-up includes : Alison Spittle, Leila Navabi, Kemah Rob, Chloe Petts and host Sikisa.

12 March: Tall tales, songs and mischievous magic from the award-winning artiste Ada Campe, joined by pianist Sarah Bodalbhai and comedian/ventriloquist Max Fulham.
