D’Arcy Trinkwon plays the fifth organ recital in his Travel the World in Seven Concerts series at St Mary’s Church in Kemptown on February 27.
FOR one month only, due to repairs at The Meeting House, the usual venue for these concerts, the February recital is taking place at St Mary’s Church.
D’Arcy said: “Due to building repairs The Meeting House will be out of operation for 4-6 weeks, therefore February’s concert the fifth in the series, cannot take place there. However, I am very grateful to Fr Andrew Woodward and Katherine Prior for allowing us to hold the concert in St Mary’s Church, Kemp Town Brighton instead.
“St Mary’s is a wonderful, lofty building with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The organ is of particular interest and well-known to local organists.”
Due to a lunchtime church service (at 12.30-1pm), on this occasion only, the concert will start at 1.30pm.
The recital will feature compositions by Latin composers including de Arauxo, Guridi, Seixas, da Conceição, Camilleri, Zipoli and Ginastera from countries including Spain, Portugal, Malta, Italy and Argentina.
The vibrant Latin and Hispanic temperament has produced its musical equivalent…. in the Baroque Spanish and Portughese organs, with their unique sound, and their music were very particular to each other: ‘Translating’ this to English organs (whose sounds is so utterly different – like the languages) can be a real challenge for organists.
(The programme may have to be altered somewhat as the Bevington organ at St Mary’s Church – lovely as it may be – is not ideally suited to this proposed Hispanic repertoire!)
