PREVIEW: Comedy, fake news and amazing circus acts come to Brighton Dome

Brighton Dome re-opens at full capacity for the first time since lockdown with a dizzying array of entertainment for the Autumn.

Contemporary music artists Little Simz, Easy Life and DJ Shadow all headline. Stand-up Simon Amstell, comedian Bridget Christie and a musical Rob Brydon are also in the programme. The show that I really look forward to is Canadian circus act The 7 Fingers, performing Passagers. I was lucky enough to watch them in rehearsal via Zoom and it’s a truly stunning, daring combo of acrobatics, contemporary dance, narrative and song that explores our fascination with travel. Not to be missed under any circumstances in my view.

Nu Civilisation Orchestra leads a musical celebration of 50 years of Marvin Gaye’s classic album What’s Going On and the London Philharmonic Orchestra make a welcome return. Becky Hill gives us a string of chart-toppers and Jose Gonzalez, Rufus Wainwright and Public Service Broadcasting play their best-known album tracks. Gigs include From The Jam, Hawkwind, Jethro Tull, Steve Hackett and The Darkness.

The comedy line-up includes: Jimmy Carr, Romesh Ranganathan and Katherine Ryan. Jonathan Pie is back with his acid-strength Fake News and Jack Dee performs his Off The Telly show.

Todd Phillips’ award-winning film Joker is accompanied by a live orchestra and films will feature from the Banff Mountains and Ocean Film festivals.

Graham Norton will be in conversation with iconic Queer writer Armistead Maupin, and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash will reveal her guide to transforming your life through Drag. Food Queen Nigella Lawson, actress Miriam Margolyes and astronaut Tim Peake all appear  to discuss their books.
