The great news was announced by Fringe CEO Julian Caddy who said: “Almost 6 months ago we were locked down due to Covid 19 and the world as we knew it was thrust into a seemingly unending period of uncertainty. Brighton Fringe was cancelled 6 weeks before it was due to begin , and since then the arts landscape has been devastated… but I am delighted to say that thanks to incredible patience, hard work and sheer bloody-mindedness the Brighton Fringe autumn season will be taking place”
It will run from 1-31 October , with some extra events in September and November, and more shows expected to be added at regular intervals over the next few weeks.
It will be a mixture of live events with a physical audience, streaming and shows added to the Fringe website.
Shows so far announced include: The Spirit of Woodstock by local company Something Underground, to be staged outdoors at St Ann’s Well Gardens, a weekly live stream by Peter Joannou, Brighton’s singing barber, and stand-up comedy from Ross Kamp, Dave Chawner and Troy Hawke at the Laughing Cow at Caroline of Brunswick.
The organisers stress that the safety of audience and performers is paramount. Face coverings must be worn in enclosed spaces, all events will be ticketed and audience participation is discouraged!
